Drug Wars Release Candidate 3 Announcement
Hey everyone,
I hope you're all enjoying Release Candidate 2. I was never a big fan of the alpha/beta/whatever bullshit. Anyways, here's some more bullshit, specifically regarding development and updates. I'm just gonna type a bunch of shit out actually.
RC3 is in the works. It will come out. I don't know at the moment if it will be "The" Drug Wars "Gold Master" "Ready to Ship" "Any%" or whatever, but it's coming. I'm not sure what all to put in it so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send in your ideas. I'm sure my coworkers are sick of me asking for their ideas.
What's for sure in RC3 is maaaajor "under-the-hood" updates. The game's fucking slow. It's real slow. I hate it. And I didn't know it was this slow until I did an actual playthrough after I put it up on itch. And I know why it's slow. It's because in total there have been two rules ever for developing this project:
1. Try to stay as true to the OG DrugWars as possible, until something can get shipped, and
2. You must be intoxicated.
Personally, I think the game is slow because I barely know how to use RPGMaker, and also I'm high as shit when I work on this game. Recently I discovered RPGMaker's Custom Event functions, which should (hopefully) make the game faster, because you won't have to load the Crackhead Fight "Function" five (I'm serious) times.
Also, here's some fun facts:
-Release Candidate 1 does exist. In total, it was played by probably 8 or 10 people, most of which were my coworkers. The only computer It'll probably stay on longest is one of the computers we use at work.
-RC1 also had an NPC that would give you $7000 every time you spoke with him. I actually deleted him when exporting this game and pasted him back afterwards. He now gives you $7000 and "The Crazy Gun," which does 69420 damage. His name is Mario and he's canonically a 1920s Italian man.
-If you have less than $2 on you when it's showtime, one of the guys will say, "I'm finna kill myself." This is in reference to a lady who came up to me at a gas station in Joliet, asked me if I had "two damn dollars," and then said "I'm finna kill myself." It was probably one of the strangest interactions I've had. If I ever make any real money off this, I'm giving it all to her.
I've been watching the analytics for this game, I check them maybe once or twice a day. I feel like this game has potential, and I hope you're willing to see this half-finished project through to the end.
